HISTORICAL SOCIETY
History
House, home of PPHS, is located at 92 Main Street in Porter, Maine
It
is the mission of the
Parsonsfield-Porter Historical Society to collect and preserve
artifacts, photographs, documents and publications of historical
significance that relate directly to the history of Parsonfield, Porter
and South Hiram, Maine - including the village of Kezar Falls; to
preserve and make available for research the genealogical records of
families from the area; to encourage the love and study of local
history in the youth of the area; to encourage the preservation of
historical sites and structures; and to discover and disseminate local
history, legend and lore so that succeeding generations may benefit
from a better understanding of their past.
PURPOSE
OF THE SOCIETY
- To have the
collection of documents and objects available for research and exhibit
on a timely basis.
- To ascertain
that artifacts, records and property meet "historic significance"
criteria.
- To actively
seek funding through
bequests, donations and grants to restore and maintain the collections
and property of the Society.
- To outreach to
the community and
schools to promote an understanding of local history through a
newsletter, exhibits, lectures and presentations.
- To promote the
exchange of knowledge and to encourage the deposit of genealogical
records with the Society.
- To cooperate
with other
genealogical groups and societies and to assist the area libraries in
expanding and publicizing their genealogical holdings.
